After a walk through the Jade Market in Yau Ma Tei, we were exhausted from haggling and in need of coffee. We had heard of an artsy cafe called Kubrick and being fans of the late Stanley Kubrick, had to check it out.

Think cafe meets bookstore at an art gallery and you’re on the right track. Kubrick combines these three and they fit together very naturally. The lighting is excellent during the day, especially if you are seated close to the front of the shop, where there are large windows. The decor is what you might expect at a bookstore, but with elegant wooden tables and brightly colored art pieces hanging on the walls around you.

The manager was friendly and the patrons we met enjoyed talking about art, literature and-you guessed it-coffee. We enjoyed our lattes and a discussion with a talented young illustrator. The coffee was great and inspired a discussion about roasting coffee beans and coffee flavors as we meditated on the caramel notes and nuttiness in our lattes.

So, if you’re like us and just need a place to meet some creative people from time to time, Kubrick is the place. This artsy cafe brings some of the best and brightest creative minds in Hong Kong together over good coffee. If there is a better place to let your creative juices flow, we haven’t found it.
