In this year’s Foodie Forks, we were delighted to give Ming Gor of Pei Ho barbecue restaurant the Editor’s Choice Top Food Hero award, in recognition of his passion and commitment in supporting the needy by selling meal vouchers and distributing free meal boxes. Since then, Ming Gor has further extended his charitable endeavours in the establishment of Pei Ho Counterparts as an official charitable social enterprise as well as Pei Ho (Ming Gor) Charity Foundation, collectively aiming to help underprivileged people through different outreach and charity programmes.

The first fundraising event for Pei Ho Counterparts will be held between 17 November and 15 December 2016, when Pei Ho Counterparts will be taking over the ground-floor lobby at 1 Lan Kwai Fong to sell Ming Gor’s signature lunchboxes and meal vouchers. For each lunchbox sold at $32 during the event, $20 will be used to cover costs while the remaining proceeds will go towards Pei Ho (Ming Gor) Charity Foundation. For each meal voucher sold at $24, a person in need gets a free meal and an extra $7 goes to the foundation. But don’t stop there – use Android Pay to pay for the lunchboxes or meal vouchers, as the mobile checkout service will also be donating an additional $4 towards Pei Ho (Ming Gor) Charity Foundation if users opt to use its service.

The pop-up store will operate every Monday through Friday during the mentioned period, from 11:30am–2:30pm. Three choices will be offered every day (including options such as fish fillet and sweetcorn served with rice, egg and tomato served with rice and fried rice noodles with beef), and the lunches will be packaged using biodegradable boxes and utensils made from bagasse, the fibrous remnants of sugar cane. Not only are the lunches charitable, they are also environmentally friendly. Hats off to you, Ming Gor!
