It was confirmed on US TV series Top Chef last year that chef Christine Flynn of iQ Food Co in Toronto is the mastermind behind @chefjacqueslamerde, amassing a dedicated ‘grammer following for the chef’s junk food works of art: using the likes of cheap hot dogs, Oreos and Fruity Pebbles cereal to create plates worthy of a Michelin-starred restaurant. Alongside the drool-worthy shots are Jacques La Merde's enthusiastic rants about each dish in the chef’s signature all-caps ‘bro’ style. Our friend Monsieur La Merde takes himself way too seriously, and we love him all the more for it.
Here are some of our favourites of the lowbrow-meets-highbrow bunch:
Red velvet cupcake, strawberry milk spheres, Fruity Pebbles, Fruit by the Foot, maraschino cherries
Riblet sandwich from a petrol station, Cheddar Babybell, cocktail onions, Kraft Single, fancy moss
Mississipi mud pie, Concord grape jelly, peanut butter, Oreos, purple Maynard's Wine Gums, orchid petals
Stagg Dynamite Hot Chili (from a tin), Old El Paso tortilla, Velveeta, romaine, tiny onions, chihuahua bits, sea beans
Pepperoni Bagel Bite, jerky, various leaves, Haribo Fried Egg, pepperoni oil powder, balsamic reduction
