Moët Hennessy Diageo and World Class unveiled the top three Hong Kong and Macau finalists for their 2017 cocktail competition. The three passionate bartenders passed rocky challenges that tested their knowledge in food pairing, whisky production and speed drink mixing.

The Finalists

Lok Cheung – Angel’s Share

Born and bred in Hong Kong, Cheung stays true to his ethos of sharing happiness with his customers. This bartender from Angel’s Share won the food pairing challenge at Ho Lee Fook by creating a mix of Don Julio Blanco tequila, tomato, basil and coriander.

Alexander Ko – The Woods

Ko has been working at bars of different styles and cultures since 2011. The Woods’ bartender manifested his rich experience in the whisky challenge by showcasing his in-depth knowledge of this distilled spirit.

Samuel Kwok – Quinary

Shining behind the bar for 11 years and currently bar manager at Quinary, Kwok is interested in developing contemporary bartending techniques to underscore exciting flavours and textures in his drinks.

The three contenders have 72 hours to create a pop-up bar in the middle of Tong Chong Street at Taikoo Place as part of the Hong Kong Shakedown on Thursday, 15 June. This public event with no entrance fee invites the crowd to vote for their favourite bartender.

 

The winner will represent Hong Kong and Macau at the World Class Global Final in Mexico City on 20–25 August 2017, in the hopes of opening his very own bar.
