The Dining Room is a modern interpretation of the Shanghai Min. It has unique wooden decor, a spacious ceiling and a semi-open kitchen. The Shanghainese fare hits on all of the best Shanghai dishes from traditional dim sum to more sophisticated desserts.

I have been to their Causeway Bay branch, on Hysan Place several times and it honestly has been one of my favourite spots for Shanghai cuisine, not to mention the very reasonably priced menu.

As always, we start with the signature pan-seared pork buns, served in a mini skillet, with an excellently crispy bottom and a delightful burn-your-mouth soupy filling.

The pork buns are followed by a new addition to their seasonal menu, the shrimp toast, which is deep-fried with a shrimp paste and a sesame seed topping to ensure a little added crunchiness.

The pork belly shaomai is a twist on the traditional version that is wrapped with glutinous sticky rice and cubes of braised pork belly.

We finish with a signature dessert platter, which comes with two puddings and two sweet treats of your choice. It is a complete knockout because it includes all of my favourite items on the dessert menu. All of the puddings are equally silky and smooth and the lovely looking crispy rice dumpling is filled with sweet custard. This is a must have!

Next time, forget about the posh Shanghai restaurants and come to this pretty eatery for a surprising twist!
