Monday: Burger Bonanza

Do you get a pit in your stomach at the start of another workweek? We like to beat those workaday blues with wonder chef Uwe Opocensky's unbeatable burgers at Beef & Liberty. The burger bar's Double Trouble offer on Mondays from 6pm onwards entitles diners to one-buy-get-one-free hamburgers with the purchase of a drink. We usually go all out and opt for the bacon cheese patty topped with Wicks Manor English bacon, raclette and caramelised onions – calories be damned.

Tuesday: Ti’ Punch and Tings + Raw Bar Tuesdays

Two years on from this Caribbean-inspired watering hole’s win for Best New Bar in the Foodie Forks awards and we’re still heading back to Rummin’ Tings on a regular basis, especially on Tuesday evenings when the food and drink offer provides a serious bang for the buck. Buy-one-get-one-free Ti’ Punch cocktails and tings – both small and bigger plates, from conch salad and Jamaican beef patties to jerk chicken and sticky island ribs – are yours for the taking from 7pm till late. Popular in French-speaking Caribbean nations such as Haiti and Martinique, Ti’ Punch is a potent rum-based concoction similar to a caipirinha. Accompanying all this glorious grub is live zouk music, the iconic carnival beat of the French Caribbean.

Either before or after hitting up Rummin’ Tings, Lily & Bloom is on our go-to list for Tuesdays. This is where we go to quench our seafood-on-ice thirst. All night long, diners can dig into unlimited freshly shucked oysters, mussels and prawn cocktail – plus your choice of main course by fab new L&B Executive Chef Chris Grare – for $490 a head. You can’t go wrong with any of the US steaks or the lobster mac ’n’ cheese.

Wednesday: New York Night + Terrific Tapas

On the last Wednesday of every month from 6–11pm, we like to celebrate hump day by heading down to ever-reliable Italian-American bar and restaurant 208 Duecento Otto for its NYC-themed cocktails and snacks and Italian-American beer and spirit pairings. All classic cocktails – including the appropriately named Manhattan, Eastside and New York sour – are priced at $60 while beer-infused cocktails with such monikers as Wild Thing, Italian Job and Businessman’s Special start from $60. Chef Mick Bolam’s famous meatballs, pizza by the slice and other Big Apple goodies are on hand should hunger pangs strike. Though he’s a West Coaster, we’ve got no beef with DJ Reflex, who hits the decks at this monthly meet-up.

On any other Wednesday of the month, La Paloma is where it’s at for us, with $45 tapas and drinks by the bar all night long with the Spanish eatery’s Miercoles Calientes (Hot Wednesdays) offer. At those prices, it’s easy to overdo it, so take it slow and steady. Don’t miss the pulpo a la Gallega, or octopus with smoked paprika and olive oil, the signature dish of Galicia, or the classic tortilla done right.

Thursday: Champers and Canapés + Seafood Night

Though it might not be the official start to the weekend, we personally consider Thursday the new Friday. A great get-ready-for-the-weekend option is dragon-i, which – unexpectedly to many – serves up top-notch Chinese and pan-Asian food and cocktails before the clubbers converge post-10pm. From 5–9pm on Wednesdays–Fridays, immerse yourself in unlimited champagne on ice (Moët & Chandon Ice Imperial to be precise) and a bountiful assortment of Japanese-inspired canapés – teriyaki beef roll with leek, scallop ceviche, duck liver mousse with caviar and deep-fried Hiroshima oyster with shichimi mayonnaise, for instance – for $388 a head. If we’re not in the mood to glam things up, our other Thursday night-go is the much more laid-back Flying Pig Bistro for Chef Chris Przemyski’s Seafood Night (Wednesdays and Thursdays). For a tidy sum of $218 per person, your food and drink are sorted. Take your pick from four seafood-comfort main courses (garlic king prawns, lobster linguine, salmon fillet or whole sole) plus a glass of Valparra Sauvignon Blanc.

Friday: Beer and Wings Fest


It’s back up to SoHo on Friday for a feast of all-you-can-eat wings (spiced up Buffalo style), fries and Pabst Blue Ribbon at Linguini Fini – for the unbeatable price of $98 a head from 5–7pm. Buffalo wings and PB beer = a match made in hipster heaven.

Saturday: Supreme Snacking


No matter where our Saturday night ultimately takes us, we like to start our evening at Four Seasons’ sophisticated Blue Bar, where a bevy of delicious complimentary snacks are served between 5:30–7:30pm daily, with the well-shaken cocktails hovering in the $140 range (one tipple usually does us just fine). The snack selection changes regularly but usually includes a variety of Italian cold cuts and cheeses and savoury small bites such as chicken wings and croquettes. You’ll be tempted to overdo it, but the chic surrounds will hopefully deter you from being too greedy. If you stick around until 8pm, you’ll be treated to the soulful tunes of international jazz singer Zoey Jones.

Sunday: Sunday Night Special

If you’re anything like us, you’ll be wanting to extend that weekend feeling for as long as possible. Mercato is our top choice for ending our weekend in style, especially with their Sunday dinner promotion, on from 6–11pm each week, which means we have time to catch a flick either before or after our meal. The Sunday night offer is for a minimum of two people and includes five courses (yep – you read that right) of Chef Anthony Burd's sensational seasonal dishes for only $248 a head – a crazy good deal. If you're dining a bit later with a smaller appetite, check out the late-night cicchetti offer (available on Sundays–Thursdays, 9:30–11pm). Cicchetti refers to the Venetian tradition of serving up savoury small plates – think Italian-style tapas – in bars and casual eateries after hours. This is an even better deal: $388 for two people, to include five small plates.
