On August 1, the acclaimed mother-son duo behind the Saigonese grill-house Le Garçon Saigon, Head Chef Bao La and his mother Chef Chieu Thi Le, will team up to host a family-style charity banquet in aid of the KOTO foundation, which teaches disadvantaged Vietnamese youths to support themselves through hospitality training, with many going on to careers in top tier hotels and restaurants around the world.

Throughout the evening, students from KOTO will demonstrate their skills behind the bar and in the kitchen, where they will be concocting some Saigonese favourites, as well as preparing some hearty dishes served with Vietnamese piquant dipping sauces.
Balancing rice paper, chewy vermicelli cake and herbs will accompany each dish as a wrap to create a symphony of textures, flavours and temperatures that have garnered the critical acclaim of this grill-house.
At $1,000 a ticket, guests will also be able to take part in a silent auction, with items generously donated from famed organisations such as the Peninsula Hotel and Luke Nguyen's grain-cooking studio in Ho Chi Minh City. All proceeds will go towards KOTO foundation.
For chefs Bao and Chieu, KOTO is more than a charity; it is a way to shape the futures of Vietnam’s most vulnerable children. “I first heard of KOTO when I was young, and have long wanted to align with and support their cause,” says the dynamic young chef Bao La. “Being of Vietnamese heritage, it’s important to my family to support organisations such as these.”
