Aiming to build a community environment where patrons can come to hang out, work out and pig out, The Elephas is a health and coffee bar attached to Warrior Academy, a Muay Thai training facility where you can punch and pull things, work up a sweat and then stuff your face full of mindful options to fuel you for the next round.
The salads are tweaked daily to ensure fresh flavours and seasonal ingredients and are, for the most part, Thai influenced, with flecks of chilli heating up the beetroot, quinoa, spinach, seafood and other hearty salad ingredients. They also do a delicious version of poké teeming with fresh tuna over rice as well as 'healthy' tacos.
Their coffee bar serves beans from local roaster Blooms that include a red roast that's as arresting in colour as it is in flavour, with a smooth and creamy finish. Freshly made sweets include a surprisingly delightful avocado brownie, a gluten-free lemon tart, silky banana bread made with coconut sugar and whatever else they feel like baking up on the day that tastes good and is pretty good for you.
We really liked the salad options and found a dozen things we would like to try out on our next visit, which is always a good sign. And we wish it was nearer our own office, another good sign.
If you're in the neighbourhood and looking for a filling lunch, this is a good little spot to check out, especially if you want to hit the mat afterwards.
