For the summer, Wired Cafe has collaborated with Rosie's Cafe to create a unique menu for to entertain both your eyes and stomach. The theme of their new menu is Funassyi, the Japanese mascot that is said to bring luck and happiness. It's so popular it even has it's own theme song.
The menu features five items: the first being a Funassyi Fried Pork Cutlet Omelette Rice. Served with salad, a crisp fried pork cutlet and a fried tomato rice delicately topped with a thin layer of egg. The dish is then decorated with seaweed and ketchup to create the Funassyi look.
The rice was extremely rich with flavours and the egg balanced the rice well without dominating. The pork cutlet was fried with a crispy orange outer shell, with a chewy pork cutlet inside and the dish was brought to a new level with the tangy Japanese barbecue sauce they served on the side.
The second dish served was the Funassyi burgers. This dish includes two mini burgers branded with the Funassyi face on the buns with fries and three different side sauces: radish, salsa and a Japanese sauce made with yolk. This last one was my favourite for its sweet and sour balance. The burger was rich and cooked to a perfect medium rare.
The dessert was a pancake decorated to look like, you guessed it, Funassyi.
The presentation of this dish was, I must admit, absolutely adorable. The pancake itself was fluffy and soft, however it lacked sweetness even with the syrup and had a cakey aftertaste. The syrup was watered down and thin. The star of this dish was not the pancake, but the fruit served on the side. The strawberries and blueberries were sweet and juicy with delicious pears imported from Japan.
The art on the coffee followed the cutesy theme and unlike it's sweet appearance, was quite bitter as coffee should be.
