In light of COVID-19, we encourage diners to take precautions when eating out. You can also support your favourite restaurants by getting takeaway and delivery.

While the Quarry Bay area has a cluster of recommended restaurants, three-storey bar and restaurant Mr & Mrs Fox continues to dominate with its rustic-chic concept. And now it’s open for brunch with a well-priced three-course set weekend brunch menu ($218/person; +$188 for free-flow).

Weekends at Mr & Mrs Fox are low-key and radiate Team Comfort from start to finish. The aroma of the French toast placed on the table immediately caught my nose, served with thin, crisp bacon.

One of our favourite starters was the eggs Benedict. Poached egg and smoked ham are layered under a blanket of spinach and mushroom, then topped with luxurious truffle.

The three eggs any style are ideal for a hearty breakfast main. The sunny-side-up eggs looked almost cartoonishly perfect, served with sides of charred tomato and mushroom, salad greens and thick, crisp seasoned potato wedges.

The lunch-style mains were more exciting than the mix of breakfast starters. The Mr & Mrs Fox kitchen is well known for its beef dishes, so the Black Angus beef burger is a must-order. Cooked medium rare, the burger was simply mouth-watering.

The shrimp linguine is green in all senses of the word, containing crisp peas and crunchy asparagus, all mixed up in fresh pesto. Delicious and gone in minutes.

The only dish I would skip is the homemade waffles (+$48) for dessert. The waffles were overcooked and too crisp for my liking, while the chocolate sauce reminded me of melted ice cream. Both the sauce and whipped cream were bland and flavourless.

Instead for dessert, opt for the pandan roll. The cake was soft, pillowy and subtly sweet.

Verdict

While there isn’t anything outstanding on the brunch menu at Mr & Mrs Fox, for the most part the dishes are well made and tasty. We’re happy to have a brunch choice in Quarry Bay to recommend!
