The Diner
The Diner bills itself as “Hong Kong’s best American diner”, and their pancakes do the talking. Featuring seven types of American-style diner pancakes, this Soho spot knows its stuff. A big shout-out to the blueberry pancakes (HKD108), with fresh blueberries and whipped cream sweetening the hotcakes. We also love the Big Breakfast Stack (HKD158), which brings out salty and sweet flavours with sunny-side-up egg, bacon, hash browns, Cheddar, and caramelised onion.

A Happy Pancake
These pancakes have long made Japanese foodies go crazy, and so too with Hong Kongers when the brand opened here in 2019. With a branch at Lee Garden Three, A Happy Pancake’s soufflé pancakes are made to order and topped with Hokkaido cream butter and manuka honey sourced from New Zealand. The flavours are pretty funky, including the pancake with cheese mousse & berry sauce (HKD138) and pancake with milk tea sauce & homemade granola (HKD142).

FLIPPER’S
Founded in Tokyo, FLIPPER’S brings the Japanese soufflé love to Hong Kong with ooey-gooey pancakes made with Japanese eggs, locally grown wheat, and maple-butter cream. The kiseki pancake (from HKD129) is their star product, featuring three plump cakes drenched in a variety of toppings, including hazelnut, chocolate, caramel, and banana. We also recommend the mini soufflé pancake (HKD88) for fruity infusions of banana, mango, or strawberry.

HoiHoi Pancake House
HoiHoi Pancake House is a top Japanese pancake brand famous for its bouncy and soft pancakes. The soufflé cakes are pretty to look at and taste uber sweet. Try the plain soufflé pancake (HKD88) for classic flavours. As for their American-style pancakes, the plain Hawaiian pancake (HKD88) is pleasantly firm, just right for soaking up the butter and maple syrup toppings.

Green Waffle Diner
Identifying as a “Hong Kong Canadian” restaurant, we can’t argue that Green Waffle Diner has a link to the Great White North, but they do a great job cooking up American-inspired Reuben sandwiches, mac ‘n’ cheese plates, waffles, egg dishes, and, of course, pancakes. The fresh fruit pancakes (HKD118) look perfectly pancakey, topped with fruit, chocolate, and whipped cream. Be sure to order the unique pandan pancakes (HKD148), loaded with condensed milk, green apple, strawberry, blueberry, and toffee cinder.

Down in Central, Tsim Sha Tsui, and Tsueng Kwan O, Café Crêpe dominates the crepe scene with nearly 20 flavours of sweet and savoury French-style pancakes, alongside breakfast plates, salads, burgers, and more. For the sweet-toothed, we recommend the peach cobbler (HKD95) and pear and salted caramel (HKD78). The West Coast (HKD125) with sockeye smoked salmon, cream cheese, red onion, and spinach is a noteworthy salty option by the Canadian chain.

IHOP Hong Kong
America’s favourite pancake brand of IHOP came to our city last year and has since impressed on the classic flavours of hotcakes drenched in sauce. For the die-hards and traditionalists, their original buttermilk pancakes (HKD68, two pieces) hit the spot with two slabs of buttery, sugary goodness with maple syrup and butter topped above. Chocolate Chocolate Chip pancakes (HKD83, two pieces) brings a crunch and chocolatey touch to their signature pancake recipe.
