I'm Italian – I love lasagne!
Italy culinary traditions are made up of diverse and unique regional cooking, counting on typical dishes often unknown in other parts of the country. However, some dishes like lasagne are eaten all across Italy.
Originating in Bologna, in the Emilia-Romagna region, lasagne has epitomised the Italian family Sunday lunch for many generations.
In 2011, to mark Italy's 150th anniversary of unification, the prestigious eno-gastronomic Italian magazine Gambero Rosso launched a survey amongst readers asking which food products or dishes have been most popular in reinforcing the sense of unity amongst Italians.
Lasagne was included in the top 10. Excluding single-item produce, such as Parmigiano-Reggiano, extra-virgin olive oil and mozzarella, and taking into account only the finished dishes, lasagne came second only to pizza!
Last year, another magazine, Il Giornale del Cibo, promoted a survey among Italians living abroad about the foods they miss most. Pasta ranked first, and lasagne was one of the most mentioned dishes in this category.
Lasagne has been a bestseller at ilBelPaese for many years. To give credit to this incomparable dish, we have launched Lasagne Week, featuring a feast of fresh pasta sheets, meat, béchamel sauce and Parmesan cheese prepared by Casa Rinaldi Corporate Chef Simone Bianchi.
