Valentine’s Day Hacks for the Romantically Challenged

“What are you doing for Valentine’s Day?” is often the dreaded question during the days leading up to the 14th of February. Will you go for the always pricey, often stiff set menu at a restaurant (aka, a lot a caviar, Wagyu and truffle) or will you spring for a massive bouquet worth close to a month’s worth of rent just so the girlfriend can parade it around the office? Hmm… with such tempting options, what should one do?

Don’t fret. Foodie is here to the rescue… well, sorta. At least we’re here to give you a few fun hacks that will make Valentine’s Day a little less strenuous – on the nerves as well as the wallet.

Breakfast of champions

Start winning brownie points bright and early with these heart-shaped sunny-sides nestled in toast. Carbs, protein and a hefty dose of cuteness – a sure champ’s breakfast. Click here for the recipe.

Don’t have time for a sit-down breakfast? Leave these in your lovey’s lunch bag for a fruity surprise.

Throughout the day

Drop off these treats at the office for sweet reminders of why you are numero uno in your sweetheart’s mind.

Trick question: what can you achieve with a cupcake tray and a few marbles? Apparently the cutest, no-fuss heart-shaped cupcakes out there.

Say it with strawberries

These ice cubes tick off several V-Day necessities: pink (check), heart shaped (check), clichéd combo of strawberries and champagne (check).

Who would have guessed that halved strawberries really look like mini hearts? When covered in chocolate, these make a classic Valentine’s combo.

Bake-off

Don’t have a heart-shaped baking tray for that special occasion? No problem! This easy trick using both square- and round-shaped baking tins does magic with a little geometric assemblage.

When in doubt, say it with bacon…
