These days, there are SO many ways to search for anything you want – you can search for a location on Google Maps, a friend on Facebook, a date on Tinder, a ride on Uber and just about anything you want to buy on Amazon. But what about when it comes to something to eat ? Something vegetarian, something Italian or maybe even a steak?
We’ve tried Google, Instagram and TripAdvisor – apart from the thousands of irrelevant search results and random useless reviews, we still couldn’t find that juicy, succulent steak we were desperately craving right where we are in Hong Kong. And the solution to this? We need a search and social platform dedicated to food to see both user-generated content and photos taken by the pros, dish descriptions and prices.
In light of the new Dishtag concept, we are hosting a series of tasting events to show you the search and share function of Dishtag alongside some yummy dishes. If you missed the first event, join us at Brickhouse on Thursday, 25 October 2018 to learn and experience the future of dish searching (we’ll pay for the delicious food; you just pay for the free-flow drinks).
So how exactly does Dishtag help you with inspiring and relevant dish searching? Here is a three-step guide to get you started finding the dish you like through beautiful photos on this revolutionary platform:
Step 1: Discover
Go to the App Store or Google Play Store to download Dishtag. Simply register with your email and password, and then you will be greeted by four main tabs at the bottom of the page. Head to DISCOVER DISHES and follow your favourite restaurants to get menu updates. You can also follow your friends here to see their food adventures in Hong Kong. If you are simply looking for a dish, just type the kind of dish you want (e.g., Italian) and filter the search results by radius to instantly locate the available restaurants nearby.
Click on the photos you like and you will find the dish you like – it’s as easy as that.
Step 2: Browse
What about just browsing for inspiration? Go to FEED and you will see beautiful photos from restaurants and pics taken by your friends. Say you are intrigued by a dish that a friend has just tried – click VIEW MENU underneath the photo and you will be brought to the restaurant page with its official visual menu. Food is so subjective, and how you like your spaghetti carbonara may be different to how your friend likes it. By having the two forms of content, you can get a good idea of what you’re going to get when you order that specific dish, which is probably going to be somewhere in between the impeccably styled restaurant photo and your friend’s pic taken with her iPhone.
Step 3: Share
The camera eats first! You can snap and share your food photo under the UPLOAD A DISH tab. Once you have taken the picture, tag both the restaurant and dish (with preloaded dish details) as well as the friends with whom are sharing this wonderful dining experience. Treat it as a way to document your gastronomic journey and build your reputation as a food influencer amongst your friends. You will be amazed by this life-changing innovation. Go on – try it. Don’t hashtag a dish; Dishtag it!
