As autumn gradually approaches, you may start thinking of the “good old days”. To celebrate its 30th anniversary, The Royal Pacific Hotel & Towers is taking diners on a trip back in time to 1980s Hong Kong, complete with old-fashioned street nameplates, red plastic chandeliers and vintage teapots and postboxes.
From now until 21 November 2018, diners’ all-time fave salted-egg flavours will be showcased at the buffet, including deep-fried shrimp with salted egg, salted-egg French fries and baked crab with salted egg.
The king of local fish – grouper – is featured in a variety of dishes such as braised grouper with lettuce, garlic, pork belly and Chinese mushroom and stir-fried grouper with chicken fillet, celery and mixed bell peppers.
Steamed rice rolls (cheung fun) have always been locals’ childhood favourites for breakfast. Adding a twist to the standard rice rolls, steamed rice rolls with lobster and XO sauce are served up at their very own live station.
The noodles station is offering glutinous rice noodles (“doggie noodles”) with barbecued Kurobuta pork, an elevated version of the classic bowl of local noodles sold around HK’s public-housing estates.
The dessert station treats diners to retro Hong Kong snacks like traditional candy and coconut wrap, hand-pulled dragon’s beard candy and golden sweet egg twists.
