Bloomberg reports that Chinese scientists have created a formula based on traditional Chinese medicine that’s been designed to cure vascular dementia. There are no drugs on the market that specifically treat dementia, and current treatments for Alzheimer’s only provide moderate relief. The blend of ginkgo biloba, saffron and ginseng – referred to as SLT – uses the combination to improve the brain’s blood circulation, increase brain cell communication and reduce inflammation. SLT headed to late-stage trials in Australia this past month, with a larger study in China scheduled soon. The added benefit is the absence of any adverse effects given that these ingredients are already used daily in Chinese soups and other cooking.
