We and two foodie members drank over 5 glasses of wine, and spent hours deliberating to help you foodies find the best wine which matches the signature dishes in Chilli Fagara. We deserve a medal, we know.
The first dish served is pork and vegetable dumplings which is infused in garlic chilli sauce. Most of us agreed that red wine goes best with this dish and the selected wine is Finca San Martin Crianza 2011.
For Emperor's choice fiery hot prawns stir fried with chilli peppers, it is the most challenging dish for us all and we recommend foodie who dare to challenge this burning taste of spice dish should give it a try. The wine we voted is the Marlborough Hunter's Riesling 2012.
For deboned mandarin fish in a spice-infused broth garnished with chillies Ken Forrester Vineyards Reserve Chenin Blanc 2013 definitely goes well with this dish followed by Rioja Finca San Martin Crianza 2011.
As for fried spareribs enhanced with fragrant tea leaves, Marlborough Hunter’s Riesling 2012 barely won this one over the Rioja Finca San Martin Crianza 2011 with the La Tour Coste, Rhone Valley Cotes du Rhone “Les Trencats” 2011 coming in a strong third place.
The last dish is slices of beef crisped and glazed with a caramelized garlic and ginger sauce, Italy “Braida” Brachetto d’Acqui 2013 won for the first spot, followed closely by Marlborough Hunter’s Riesling 2012.
As for desert, the homemade chocolate dessert with an wonderful experience of spice down in throat . “Braida” Brachetto d’Acqui 2013, a sweet wine from Italy undoubtedly paired it and ended our meal perfectly.
If you a big fan of Sichuan food or a challenger, Chilli Fagara is certainly your next dinner spot!
