Da Via, an Italian café and takeaway joint, opened its doors last week. Drawing inspiration from rural Italy and the heart of traditional family dining, Da Via aims to be a place where busy foodies can find the very best of authentic Italian cuisine regardless of the time of day. Founded by a charming duo of Walter Kern (current president of Slow Food HK) and hosted by Alejandro Vaglietti (graduate of the University of Gastronomic Studies), the pair couple years of expertise and passion to embraces the slow food philosophy of providing good quality Italian gastronomy with integrity.
“Our aim is to create a place where people can rediscover the simple pleasures of authentic cooking with an understanding of ingredients and their original source”, says Walter Kern, the founder of Da Via. Walter has amassed over 40 years of experience in the food, beverage and hospitality industries, and stands by his philosophy of offering a quiet and serene respite to us busy city folk.
Priding itself as a gastronomic retreat, Da Via, meaning ‘from the street’, brings back the casual, relaxed ambience of Italy to the busy and bustling city of Hong Kong. The wide-open space with a balance of vintage woods and bright splashes of colour takes you back to the rolling hills of Tuscany, and the communal dining area is reminiscent of lively family gatherings over a home-cooked meal.
Da Via boast all-day dining hours of 8am until 11pm starting from mid-July (currently they open from 11.30am until 11pm - so still plenty of time to get your fix), promising food fresh from the kitchen and onto your plate at any time. The Da Via team is also on hand to put together an Italian-style picnic delivered straight to the office should you be having a particularly busy day.
From la Colazione (breakfast) all the way through to Cena (dinner), Da Via offers a range of rustic delights. Indulge in anything from crisp freshly-baked breads to slow-cooked Italian-style pasta congee, or dig into hearty pastas, risotto and soups served straight from the kitchen.

With its location along Johnston Road and just a stone’s throw away from Pacific Place 3, Da Via is perfect to make a stop at for some early morning breakfast before work, or to duck out of the office for to pick up a quick snack during the day.
