Some artists paint, some choreograph a cool dance, but self-taught Melbourne-based artist Phil Ferguson creates fun crocheted hats based on different types of food.

Phil, or Chili Philly, started making his hats after moving from Perth to Melbourne, and found that sharing his work online on Instagram and Facebook was a great way to help him meet more people and channel his energy into something he really loved. Since taking inspiration from his job at a local burger shop and designing his first hat – a giant burger, he’s been hard at work producing everything from a half-tipped coffee cup to a chocolate sprinkled-donut.

Phil explains his artistic venture in this short video with BBC, in which he talks about how people love his hats because food is such a common topic that everybody loves talking about.
