Following its opening in April, Mitte, Hong Kong’s first Osteria Berlinese, has comfortably found its home in the trendy and up-and-coming area of PoHo. Comprising the old school and charming neighbourhood of Po Hing Fong. Mitte fits right in with its vision to facilitate inspiration and creativity through art, music, design and Italian cuisine.
Mitte is a bar-cum-restaurant space where Italian dishes are served alongside handcrafted cocktails in a dynamic backdrop of rotating art and music collaborators. Diners can indulge in aperitivo, casual diner-drinks and DJ led nights out, with brunch and lunch offerings on the way soon.
“Relaxed, chilled, social and inspiring, that’s the Berlin we are recreating here,” said Creative Director and Co-founder Piero Zanatta. The Italian-born visionary’s design career has taken him through Milan, Berlin, and finally to Hong Kong. Meaning ‘centre’ in German, Mitte pays homage to the central borough of Berlin, where the Eastern and Western districts of the city capital meet and play host to a melting pot of people, art and cultures.
The menu at Mitte boasts a range of moreish Italian bites, passionately prepared pasta and farm fresh salads. The fresh Polpo ($142), an octopus salad seasoned with lemon, parsley and black pepper, and the Alice linguine ($148), featuring Colatura Di Alici, an anchovy that originates from Cetara, are just two dishes that aren’t to be missed.
Mitte also offers new and exciting cocktails including the Negroni ($126) and Spritz ($78), which have already become favourites among diners.
More than just a dining experience, Mitte invites guest musicians and electronic DJs weekly, cultivating a deep-seated appreciation for the arts among patrons. In the words of Piero, “there’s a little something something for every creative appetite”.
