Spanish food lovers, it's your time.
The Optimist is to open 2nd of October and is now taking reservations, ambitiously taking over three stories in the heart of Wan Chai with the aim of transporting you straight to Spain the second you stride through its door. This Northern Spanish restaurant is brought to us by the same folks behind Pirata–an Italian restaurant that is constantly booked out and for a long while sat at the top of Tripadvisors' best restaurant list as number one in Hong Kong–and seeks to achieve the same bang, serving authentic Northern Spanish cuisine. On the first floor sits a chic Bar that offers casual drinks and all day dining, while the second floor is catered for a more refined and intimate dining experience as The Dining Room.
Mariscada (seafood tower)
Txuleta (Rubia Gallega rib eye) from the grill to your plate
Most of the buzz will be surrounding The Grill on the top floor, best for those who crave some casually carnivorous items. The Grill will be presenting asador-inspired dishes (meaning: a grill where meat, seafood and vegetables are cooked rustically over hot coals or wood, as has been done for centuries). The executive chef over 15 years of experience in mastering the art of grilling at top restaurants in Madrid including Lobby Market, La Barra del Cacique and Caciquito.
Rodaballo a la brasa (turbot) from the grill to your plate
Highlights to look forward to include the Mariscada, a tower featuring a fine selection of seafood (Small portion $1,100 for 26 pieces, large portion $1,780 for 50 pieces) and the Rodaballo a la brasa ($105 per 100g), turbot grilled in a metal casing that ensures it’s evenly cooked and juicy.
