Butchers Barrel, which soft opened on 25th August 2015, takes over the 1500 square foot space on Shelley Street towards the top of the Central to Mid-Levels escalator, formerly occupied by Orange Tree. On your way home from work, this is quite a handy little addition to the scene.
The store specialises in gourmet artisanal products provided by The Butchers Club, as well as fine wines from around the world. The location is on point for Mid-Levelers to stop by on their way home and purchase The Butchers Club’s signature dry-aged steaks, which are pre-packaged for your convenience. Non-dry aged steaks and grass-fed steaks are also available, as well as an array of house-made sausages and burgers, fresh seafood and fresh bread.
Customers can also purchase ready-made meals prepared by The Butchers Club’s chefs. These include options such as freshly baked fish pie, sous-vide short ribs, 36-hour slow-braised lamb shanks with red wine, tomato and thyme reduction, Berkshire pork belly with sage and apple stuffing as well as pre-packaged salads and sandwiches to grab on the way to or from work.
On the wine side, the display has been designed to represent that of a typical European wine shop, and Rex the in-house sommelier, is always on hand to give customers advice and guide them through the range, including a selection of organic wines. Customers are always offered a glass of wine (or water) while they are in the shop. Around 40% of the wines are priced under $100 and, aside from a few exceptions including 15L (Nebuchadnezzar) bottles of Louis Roederer Champagne and Billecart-Salmon Champagne, the most expensive bottle comes in at $800.
