ÉPURE is launching a new luxury summer afternoon tea set (and, incidentally, a new summer menu featuring 'light and fresh seasonal fare'). You know they take it seriously when you're delivered an amuse bouche for the tea set. Available every Saturday, Sunday and public holiday from 3-6pm, the tier of sweet and savoury treats are served throughout the 17th century inspired restaurant, but we reckon it's best to savour them on the garden terrace, even if summer threatens to melt us all into gastronomic puddles of desire.
Sip your tea or fresh orange juice (or if it's Friday, free flow Frédéric Lomet Crémant du Jora Rosé or Billecart-Salmon Brut NV for an extra $238) and nibble your petit pain au homard (a lobster black truffle sandwich) in this fine-dining restaurant and appreciate everything Anne, 7th Duchess of Bedford, was for creating this heady ritual. Eating only two meals per day, as was customary during her time, simply wasn’t enough, nor is just one of the choux pastries filled with black sesame creme, or the delicate framboise pistache, a pistachio and raspberry sponge cake.
Come for the afternoon tea, stay for the summer menu, which highlights light and fresh ingredients from the farms and oceans of France. A dish featuring a favourite ingredient of Chef Boutin is the gros-gris escargots, which will be served with crunchy pointed cabbage and shallot broth.
Reasonably priced three and four course lunch menus start at $398 per person.
