Eight restaurants competed for the award of the best sarnie in HK, with the top prize going to Second Draft’s Shanghai Dip

At last week’s media preview event, eight restaurants got together to showcase their contenders for the ultimate sandwich in Hong Kong (which is pretty amazing to us here at Foodie – just a few years ago, the sarnie scene in HK was dismal). We greedily ate our way through the lot, voting on three factors: creativity, presentation and taste. It was a tough choice, but the crown went to Second Draft for their Shanghai Dip made with 24-hour braised pork leg, Stonecutter Scotch Ale pork jus and cucumber pickle on ciabatta. Bread & Beast’s HA-HA Piss Off! (Tsing Tao tempura mantis shrimp, ginger salt, sweet shrimp paste mayo, spring onion and chilli slaw on ciabatta) took second place, while Beef & Liberty’s The Gentleman’s Sandwich (Cape Grim sirloin steak, English smoked Cheddar cheese, shallot, garlic, Dijon mustard, grain mustard, parsley, tarragon, sea salt, cracked black pepper on sourdough) took the second-runner-up prize.


Each of the sandwiches will be available for purchase at the individual eateries from now until 10 October 2016 or through their official delivery partner, Deliveroo.
