Move over New Zealand – Europe is the new 'kiwi' in town. Did you know that premium European growers in Italy, Greece and France are amongst the biggest kiwi-producing countries worldwide? In 2014 alone, Europe produced 632,700 tonnes of kiwi fruits, exported to over 51 countries worldwide.
Kiwi cocktails at Shore
The mild winters and warm summers of the Mediterranean give way to a large and succulent crop that results in big, juicy kiwis filled with essential nutrients. And you will be able to sample them in Hong Kong very soon. The Premium European Kiwi campaign launched last month at a special event for media and trade professionals at Shore in Central.
Apart from the refreshing kiwi cocktails, guests were treated to a feast of dishes that all featured this lovable fruit, from tuna and kiwi poke, to kiwi butter, to kiwi gravy with beef, to kiwi-marinated salmon. Mixed in with salads, marinated and even dehydrated, we were impressed by Shore Chef Chris' creative use of this versatile fruit.
We never knew we could eat so many kiwis in one sitting, and luckily, the nutritionist of the evening, Sharon Chan, explained to us all the health benefits this fuzzy fruit brings. Loaded with many important nutrients, kiwi fruits are a rich source of dietary fibre, with high levels of vitamin A, vitamin K, vitamin E and antioxidants.
