We’re sad to see you go, Chef Sanuy.
In the past five years, Spanish chef Edgar Sanuy Barahona has made a huge impact on the Hong Kong dining scene. In 2013, we at Foodie named him Chef of the Year in our annual Foodie Forks awards for his SoHo restaurant BCN (BarCeloNa), serving up tasting menus featuring authentic Spanish tapas, paella and slow-cooked suckling pig. Since then, he’s gone from strength to strength and has helped Maximal Concepts to maintain the high standards for which its award-winning restaurants – including Brickhouse, Fish & Meat, Stockton, Limewood, Mott 32, Mercedes me Store and Blue: Butcher and Meat Specialist – have become well known. Just this year, CNN.com named Mercedes me one of Hong Kong’s best new restaurants.
We’re not sure where Chef Sanuy will end up next following his departure from HK this December, but wherever he does land, we’re confident he’ll make an indelible impression on that city’s culinary landscape, just as he has on our own fragrant harbour.
¡Adios, el jefe, y buena suerte!
