Recognising those chefs who have made a big impression on the culinary world despite (or perhaps – in our view – because of) their youth, the third edition of the S.Pellegrino Young Chef competition will commence on 1 February 2017, spanning 18 months, with the grand finale scheduled for June 2018 in Milan.
Over the extended duration of the competition, which attracted over 3,000 applicants last time around, 70 top chefs will be involved as jurors in the local competitions, 21 young chefs from 21 different geographic areas will be selected as semi-finalists and 21 chef mentors will be assigned to the young chefs to provide guidance throughout their journeys. The ultimate winner will be decided by a panel known as the Seven Stages, made up of seven of the most celebrated chefs from around the world.
This year, the geographical regions represented have been expanded to 21, with Central America–Caribbean joining the likes of Italy, France, USA, Africa–Middle East, China and Japan amongst other champion regions. In addition, applications will now be accepted in English, Spanish, Mandarin, French and Italian (although all applicants must be able to speak English).
If you think you’ve got what it takes – or know someone who does – to battle it out with other young chefs from around the globe, from 1 February until 30 April 2017, you can submit your application and signature dish at www.sanpellegrino.com. To enter, you must be a young’un at 30 years old or younger and have at least one year’s experience working in a restaurant as a chef, sous chef or chef de partie.
