Drink for Good is an annual fundraising initiative by HandsOn Hong Kong that provides a platform for people to create a positive social impact and give back to the local community while also drinking and eating at Hong Kong’s hottest spots. The funds raised are used to support children with special needs.
Kicking off on Wednesday, 4 October 2017 and running across every Wednesday of the month, you can drop by any participating Drink for Good venue to support the initiative and do your bit for people in need. These bars include Commissary, Foxglove, Lily & Bloom, Potato Head, RED Bar + Restaurant, Runway and Tivo. Drink for Good makes simple and casual drinks with friends or colleagues extra special, knowing that for every glass you raise that evening, five per cent of the proceeds will be donated to charity HandsOn Hong Kong.
Foodie is proud to be the official Drink for Good media partner, and we want to make sure that all our readers know just how easy it is to support a fantastic cause this October simply by drinking and eating at our favourite Hong Kong spots!
How can I support Drink for Good?
By rallying friends or colleagues to join you for drinks during one (or all!) of the Drink for Good Wednesdays in October, at one of the awesome participating bars that have committed to donating five per cent of their sales each evening to HandsOn Hong Kong.
If you have a group of more than 20 friends or colleagues who you’d like to bring together in support of this amazing cause, you could consider hosting a Drink for Good party at another group of fantastic venues. These hotspots have committed to donating 30 per cent of the evening’s proceeds to HandsOn! Parties can be booked online through the FeedMe Guru platform, plus there is a range of benefits for anyone who hosts a party.
How are funds raised through Drink for Good used?
Since the launch of Drink for Good in 2013, the campaign has raised over HK$400,000 for Hong Kong children with intellectual disabilities. In 2016, Drink for Good funds raised enabled HandsOn to provide volunteer services to NGO partners across 110 activities, serving 1,300 children with special needs – with the support of around 550 volunteers. In 2017, they hope to surpass all past fundraising records so that they can create lifelong memories for 2,000 children with disabilities, developing and running a range of unforgettable programmes for them.
What is HandsOn Hong Kong?
HandsOn Hong Kong is an NGO that supports other under-served NGOs by developing volunteer programmes for them and recruiting volunteers to support these activities. Their dedicated team do this work for the Hong Kong community as a free public service so that their non-profit partners can continue to further their mission and support the beneficiaries they serve. In 2016 alone, HandsOn organised over 1,600 volunteer activities, serving more than 28,000 beneficiaries, including disadvantaged children and youth, isolated elderly, refugees, ethnic minority students, under-resourced families and people with disabilities. Anyone can volunteer to support one of these meaningful activities through HandsOn’s online calendar. Donations are also most welcome and help HandsOn to continue doing their incredible work for the community.
