Make Room for Roomsbar at Emperor Cinema

In addition to being food obsessed, we’re also cinephiles here at Foodie. We were stoked to get a sneak peek at Emperor Cinema before its soft opening this past week. Luxurious to the max, the cinema features five houses, including a 12-seater VIP cinema called The Coronet, with concierge service, reclining seats, cushions and blankets – it really doesn’t get much better than this (we think it would be perfect for a private party).

And since no film-going experience is complete without a snack or two in hand, Emperor Cinemas have partnered with Maximal Concepts, whose restaurants include Blue Butcher, Limewood and Mott 32, to offer a retro-style concession stand serving up gourmet snacks such as nachos topped with pork carnitas ($85), a pulled pork burger ($85) and the Japanese-inspired Kobayashi hot dog ($85): a meaty pork sausage decked with shredded cabbage, tonkatsu sauce, bonito flakes, sesame seeds, seaweed powder and Kewpie mayo (any guesses on who this was named after?). Cocktails are available on tap – plus draught beer and wine – so go ahead and pair that dog with a G&T. Or order some froyo ($40) instead.

You can even order the Impossible Burger – and for $90 it’s one of the best value burgers in town.

Our absolute favourite thing about Emperor Cinema? The foldable table at each seat, which makes eating much less messy than at a conventional cinema. We also dig the seat-side USB chargers and complimentary Wi-Fi.

Paperless tickets can be booked online (booking fees have been waived during the soft-opening phase) or at the cinema. From now until 25 October 2017, customers can get one free cocktail at Roomsbar with each full-price ticket purchased.
