This is the kind of Chef’s Table we’re talking about: beer + family-style sharing plates, all exquisitely prepared and paired. Dubbed Brooklyn Corner, Chef Uwe Opocensky has partnered with brewmaster Garrett Oliver of Brooklyn Brewery to match the best brews with his special Italian-American menu at Beef & Liberty.
Brooklyn Brewery makes some of the most renowned beers in the world, so it’s only fitting that they’ve partnered with the lauded former Mandarin Grill chef for this passion-filled, rustic culinary endeavour. The beers they have chosen to feature are either from the brewmaster’s reserve or are experimental varieties, produced from one-off batches.
Here’s what you can expect from your Brooklyn Corner experience:
Salami, mortadella, prosciutto
That's a beef-fat candle. Yes, it is. And, yes, it’s dangerously delicious (and we don’t just mean because of the open flame!)
Home-smoked salmon and quail eggs
Steak tartare with sourdough
The pale, light, dry-hopped Sorachi Ace had hints of dill and lemongrass, with a crisp, dry finish that possibly made it our favourite beer of the day – although the Dark Matter we sampled later may have usurped that title with its blend of a brown and a winter Scotch ale with a bourbon-like character that kept us savouring its complexity like a fine wine.
Brooklyn Local 1
Brooklyn Local 1 was a dry, strong pale ale with a unique champagne-like taste on the palate that gave it a celebratory feel – this one would be great for those who like a pop of sophistication in their beer.
Steak Florentine with glazed carrots
Duck fat roast potatoes
The meal finished off with a decadent treat of tiramisu made tableside with aplomb, which paired well with the sensational flavours of the Brooklyn Intensified Coffee Porter, a beer infused with cold-brew coffee from speciality roaster Blue Bottle Coffee.
We certainly didn’t go home hungry, and we indulged in some exceptionally unique beers expertly paired with the incredible flavours from Chef Opocensky’s dishes that are homey yet still beautifully refined. You can also purchase the beers to take home – and, after trying them, we suspect you just may.
Brooklyn Corner is located within a private space at Beef & Liberty LKF. It can be booked from Thursday–Saturday, seating up to 10 diners. This unique menu is priced at $888 per person (includes 7 beer pairings).
