Hawkr

We picked up one of their noodle bowls after accidentally finding ourselves exiting the MTR in Pacific Place 3, not an ordinarily easily-stumbled-across place. But now we will be making the detour.

Opened a few months back, Hawkr serves up fresh salads, wraps and noodles with a Southeast Asian influence. The noodle bowls are particularly great because they don’t have the hot water added yet, so you can purchase one and add it when you get back home or to the office. With fresh rice noodles and other choice ingredients instead of additive-laden instant noodles, our bowl was $48 and had egg, snow peas, coriander, red pepper and baby corn, and it was divine! They have a no-MSG policy, helpful and friendly staff and also serve things like tea-leaf eggs and pandan latte, which we’ll be back to check out soon. They are committed to minimising food waste and sell over all menu items at 50% off after 7pm every day. Plus, Hawkr is co-founded by Chef Mina Park, who we already love for her Sook private kitchen work.

Cheese tea

Don’t judge.

We’ve long been lovers of this cheesy drink, but apparently now the rest of the world is catching on too. This is a cold tea drink topped with a frothed cheese cream, not to be confused with cream cheese. We like to get ours at Happy Lemon, a Taiwanese bubble tea chain; there are a few venues around town. Our fave is the milk tea with salted cheese, but they also serve up chocolate and green and black teas, all with salted cheese. Mmm.

Loved the people. Loved the place. Loved the drinks. Loved the food.

The metal straw movement

Oh, its happening. There are some drinks that just need a straw for maximum enjoyment – but not at the expense of our environment, please. Big up to all our media friends who are doing great things to continue to support those doing good in the sustainability world. We’ve been selling metal straws on our Foodie eMarket, and it strikes us now that these make for the perfect stocking stuffers. Kids go crazy for these things, but so does anyone who cares about the world we live in – and, let’s face it, everybody should. Ours comes with a straw cleaner too, so you can drink anything you like and you won’t need to worry about maintaining that whistle-clean suction. Carry one around in your pocket like Joey from Friends and you’ll always be ready when something that needs slurping finds you. Only $50 on our eMarket – you can purchase them here.

HABITŪ coffee

Aside from the fact that they roast their coffee right down the road in Wanchai for maximum freshness, HABITŪ also has a new wellness selection of coffee to keep you healthy: tumeric, green tea and beetroot. Plus, they look pretty. Actually, everything in their cafés looks pretty, down to the rose-gold drinking glasses and insanely gorgeous cakes. Also, they do a shaken whisky coffee that comes properly Irish with a healthy dose of whipped cream on top – it completely won us over.
