This month seems to be all about supporting charitable causes, and they’re getting us involved in the right way: by plying us with food and drink.
Stand Up for Justice
Free-flow booze and banter – all for a good cause! Drink for Justice, a monthly event organised by professionals, refugees and like-minded people who have come together to form Refugee Union, is hosting a comedy fundraiser to support Hong Kong refugees. Refugee Union is Hong Kong’s first refugee-led society that looks at developing connections and support networks for the refugee community.
In Stand Up for Justice’s March edition, they will be using stupid amounts of booze and bants to bring us together to support a great cause. Still not convinced? They will be featuring comedy performances by well-loved local comedians Andrew Grant and Foodie’s own Business Development Director, Jason Strickland. If you get enough liquid confidence from the free flow, there’s even an open mic!

Fang Fang X HK EnvironMentalists
This March, Fang Fang, a well-loved pan-Asian bar and restaurant in Central, will be welcoming the HK EnvironMentalists for a complete bar takeover. Guest bartenders who specialise in sustainable practices will be screening their “Pass the Pineapple” video, which focuses on showcasing how you can use pineapple “waste” in four innovative ways to create some funky cocktails. All profits will go towards initiatives to promote environmentally conscience bartending.
The HK Environmentalists specialise and pride themselves on their mission to minimise waste in bars. They are also looking to educate the community so that we are all aware of the differences we can make in our daily lives. Fang Fang’s head bartender, Gagan Gurung, was inspired by the work of the HK EnvironMentalists and has created a special cocktail for the event, Bersama, that utilises the juice from the pineapple’s core, which is usually wasted.

Cocktails for Oaxaca earthquake relief
Some of the best mixologists from HK’s Mexican bar community will each be concocting one-of-a-kind cocktails to raise money to support Oaxaca earthquake victims in Mexico. The bar that sells the most cocktails that evening will be the winner of the challenge – try them all out or stick to your favourite.
Los Sotano will be donating 30% of their overall food and bar sales that evening to the cause through the charity GlobalGiving. Oaxaca is US$750,000 short of their goal of reaching US$5 million, so come and give your support by grabbing a drink or two (or three!).
The following bars will be participating in this event: 11 Westside (Johnathan Ching), Brickhouse (Lok Gurung), Los Sotano (Robert Kariakin), Picada (Luis Alfredo) and Wilshire (Lloyd Meng).
Date: Wednesday, 14 March 2018
11 Westside & Wilshire: 1/F, The Hudson, 11 Davis Streeet, Kennedy Town
Brickhouse: 20 D’Aguilar Street, LKF, Central
Los Sotano: Basement, 21 D’Aguilar Street, LKF, Central
