Nectar
What began as progressive plant-based restaurant Grassroots Pantry in 2012 morphed into fine-dining Nectar just this past summer – and now it’s gone.
In a statement sent out today, the executive chef and owner of Nectar, Peggy Chan, said, “It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the ceasing of our operation at Nectar beginning 27th of December. Due to unstable circumstances in Hong Kong, our strategy is to reduce all overheads in the meantime, to regroup and to allow us time to generate larger impact outside of the restaurant through our training and consultancy arm. Over the past couple of months, we have done everything in our power to restore cash flow and to keep our business afloat – which I’m most certain many of our hospo and retail friends have had to experience and made very difficult decisions for.
As a family-run social enterprise, our financial resources are only so limited. Therefore, when the direction of winds change, we must adjust our sails in order to carry every single person on our ship safely to shore. My team and I are so incredibly proud of what we have put out these past couple of months as Nectar, and we are honoured to have served every single guest what we deem educational and valuable – especially through our medium of progressive plant-based cuisine.
With that said, we will remain at 108 Hollywood Road until March 2020 (tentatively) and will be prepared to host you in our space for private dinners, events and catering functions. So do please bring all of it on! Meanwhile, we will appreciate your continued support greatly, so do purchase a cheese platter for the holidays or come in for a meal before the 26th. Every bit of your patronage counts, and earning every ounce of your encouragement, love and goodwill over the years has been my greatest achievement.”
Happy Paradise
The always quirky, fun and innovative neo-Cantonese hang-out Happy Paradise will close for regular business and also reposition itself as a private kitchen and event space. Chef May Chow and her team sent the following message:

One of Central’s most iconic rooftop bar/restaurants will also be closing. CÉ LA VI, known for its stunning city views, modern cocktails and constantly evolving cuisine, will sit on its perch atop California Tower no more. We feasted there just four months ago as CÉ LA VI welcomed a new chef, Conor Beach, and launched a revamped menu.
We’re reminded today with each new closure announcement of the enduring struggle for businesses during this tough time in our city and, as Peggy mentioned above, how every bit of patronage helps.
