The Great Lunch Escape: KiKi Noodle Bar (KiKi Tea)

KiKi Noodle Bar, which opened its first Hong Kong branch at ifc mall last summer and a second shop at
K11 MUSEA earlier this year, is always a solid lunch choice for lovers of the Taiwanese noodle-shop chain.

But these noodle purveyors have outdone themselves this time with a few new noodle dishes for spring. We
slurped up every last bit of the Boston lobster mixed noodles with lobster bisque ($138) – check out that beauty above. An Italian-Asian mash-up, this dish showcases fresh Chinese-style noodles in a light, sweetish Italian-style tomato sauce, giving the noodles a pinkish sheen. We loved the punch from the heavy dose of black pepper, and the lobster itself was succulent and well cooked. We’ll be back to try the crab egg gravy mixed
noodles ($138)
, also brand new this season.

We paired our lobster noodles with a tall glass of peach oolong topped with strawberry cream mousse
($38)
. This is one fun drink – sweet, fruity tea with bits of coconut jelly crowned with a thick layer of creamy strawberry mousse (which, to us, tasted pretty similar to melted strawberry ice cream – never a bad thing) that’s flecked with pink-hued hundreds and thousands.

If you want to stave off hunger pains in the afternoon ahead, you can also order the Earl Grey chiffon cake with brown sugar pearls ($68) for dessert. It’s quite a generous portion though, so you might even have some left over to take away should those arvo munchies hit. Boba desserts are trendy right now, and KiKi’s is a creative one, made with a strongly flavoured Earl Grey chiffon cake (on the dry side on the day we visited), a light and airy Earl Grey mousse and addictively chewy brown sugar boba aplenty.

Verdict

KiKi offers creative, tasty noodles paired with similarly innovative bubble tea drinks, all reasonably priced – what more could you ask for in a quick lunch escape?
