Cafe Review: Sunny Side Cafe in Boracay

Sunny Side Cafe is hands down our favourite coffee and breakfast in Boracay

The Sunny Side Cafe is one of the main reasons we keep going back to Boracay. Not only is the coffee excellent, but they have a specialty coffee menu to satisfy even the biggest coffee snobs. The breakfast menu has something for everyone from local specialties, to egg and protein selections to satisfy the most hardened paleo eater, to a whole page of pancake options & Wonuts, which are deep fried waffles that are extra crispy. I have sampled much of their menu across multiple visits and this is one of my favourites: Bacon with smashed avocado and poached eggs on brioche.

The bakery-cafe-coffeehouse is a concept that works very well in the Philippines. It satisfies the sweet tooth of locals and uses goodies baked on site with great coffee to lure in expats and tourists alike. Far too often, the quality of espresso is the one thing that lets cafegoers down. Not so at Sunny Side where their coffee is roasted by EDSA Beverage Design Group.

Their lunch options are equally enticing with the Sunny Side chori-burger: House made spicy chorizo with pepper jelly on a brioche bun. The Sunny Side salad with mixed greens, feta, bacon, tomatoes, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, pesto, sunny side egg and balsamic vinaigrette is delicious.

Their pancakes also double well as dessert options and they will make them for take out. On our first trip to Boracay I made the mistake of ordering the red velvet pancakes with cream cheese to go.  I watched as the biggest pancakes I've ever seen were cooked and packaged up for me. We ate them for three days and still didn't finish them.

Its a great place to sit and watch Boracay go by, recover from a hangover or unwind from a stressful week in the city. They just need their own sun loungers on the beach and you would never need to leave.

Sunny Side is the winning combination and I'm waiting impatiently for them to replicate this cafe in other locations.
