About a year ago, Foodie talked about Prepd, a start-up bringing you the lunchbox of the future (click here to read more). By now, they have received more than US$1.4 million from more than 12,000 backers on Kickstarter and more than 40,000 pre-orders.
I was lucky enough to receive a Prepd Pack to try, and I've found that it's actually even better than described in the video.
What I like about the Prepd Pack
The lunchbox itself is very pretty and well designed. You can tell the designers have paid a lot of attention to the details, making it really user friendly.
The flexibility of this lunchbox is incredible. You can buy different container sets for your needs. From salad to noodles, you can carry your salad dressing and soup in one single lunchbox set, and you can also prepare lunch in advance since you have a spare set. The cool stick perfectly plugs into the lunchbox. The cutlery is magnetic, staying where it should be, so you'll never lose it. There are also chopsticks with a chopsticks holder – everything you need is packed into this bamboo case.
What I don't like about the Prepd Pack
Despite its amazing features, there are still a few things I don't like about the Prepd Pack.
Prepd is very aggressive on pricing. The official retail price is HK$599. If you're also buying other accessories like the cool stick and sleeve, your bill can easily get to a thousand.
Cool Sticks to keep your lunch chilled (HK$88)
Prepd Pack Sleeve (HK$129)
The size of the Prepd Pack is definitely not enough for a guy like me. If you purchase the standard set, you'll get a square container with two small boxes to be used for snacks, sauces or dressings. For my regular lunch portion, I would need two Prepd Packs – not to mention those who enjoy American-sized lunches!
