The streets of Central are always bustling with people, be they tourists, bankers or shopkeepers. You‘ve probably been part of the crowd before, but have you ever wondered what Central looks like from high above?
Located on the 23rd floor of California Tower, Townhouse boasts panoramic views of Central and even part of Mid-Levels. Normally serving international dishes and drinks, they now have a Floral Cocktail series ($98 per glass; buy 1, get 1 free during happy hour) that lasts until the end of September and an all-you-can-eat Asian Brunch Delights for $298 per person (for two hours). Note: all of the dishes sampled are part of the bottomless brunch.
After perusing the Floral Cocktail menu for a couple of minutes, we still couldn‘t decide between the Butterfly Garden, Angel Rose Bellini, Floral Cosmopolitan and Sunshine Florist, so we ordered one of each. With a beautiful turquoise colour, the Sunshine Florist tasted of refreshing pineapple with traces of ginger and elderflower. Some people might not find it strong enough, since it is meant to be light and sweet.
To go with our drinks, the pink rice rolls were aesthetically pleasing, with white and black sesame seeds and salmon roe on top, and they tasted just as good as they looked.
You can‘t go wrong with the combination of ingredients in the peach and smoked duck salad. The pine nuts gave it a buttery undertone.
We then tried the cream of mushroom soup and Hong Kong–style vegetable soup. The mushroom soup was rich and creamy, with a poached egg in the middle, while the veggie soup was not unlike the Chinese-style borscht soups that you get around Hong Kong – but better.
The porcini mushroom and cheese spaghetti was very creamy and rather heavy. It was very flavourful and we all loved it, but it‘s probably not the best idea to finish a plate of this pasta by yourself since you most likely will not have much space left for anything else. Sharing is caring, people.
Townhouse has done well to deliver four cocktails that fit the floral theme in colour and taste. In terms of food, they have been creative and come up with some unique dishes with Asian influences. If you want to reserve a table, I would definitely recommend requesting one by the window. Also, you may want to take advantage of the buy-3-get-1-free brunch offer.
