Stone Nullah Tavern is a classic American tavern presented by the same group that brought Linguini Fini and Posto Pubblico. They source local, organic ingredients such as pork and veggies, and their thorough knowledge of classic American cooking allow them to offer food from farm-to-table that's extremely creative and presented with a twist on Western techniques.
The first showdown is a special housemade beef dripping, served with a few pieces of toasted sourdough. It's a total out of this world experience, especially when the truthful, buttery beef fat is infused with thyme. After that is a perfect starter of giant king prawns, sourced from Vietnam, with cocktail dipping sauce and a spice of nutmeg from a typical seafood Old Bay seasoning.
Next is a plate of deep fried oysters sitting on a bed of unbeatable Buffalo chilli sauce; the corn tortilla chips come with classic nacho condiments of cheesy cheddar, sour cream, diced jalapeños and a wonderfully made pig ear crisps.
The classic American-style caesar salad is truly refreshing with crunchy lettuce leaves, a generous shaving of parmesan and favourite thick-cut bacon, made with a sweet glaze.
The wood-grilled pizza is a crispy, thin bread crust made with American toppings of barbecue chicken, fried onion, cheddar cheese and coriander leaves.
While the whole chicken is excellently fried with batter and is amazingly juicy and flavourful, the favourites of the night are definitely the enormous fall-off-the-bone dry- rubbed steak, the perfectly tender and scrumptious pork ribs, served on a smoky Applewood and glazed with an irresistibly sticky and sweet glaze and the creamy mac n' cheese, topped with an enticing organic raw egg yolk.
For the cherry on top, we finished with our favourite guilty pleasure of red velvet chocolate cake, creme brulee and an oozing layer of chocolate mousse, which was absolutely incredible. The mountain of whipped cream seemed to conclude the best banana split that I have ever come across.
