The latest mobile ice cream parlour, Curbside Creamery, has recently been conceived out of bricks and mortar in Oakland’s Temescal Alley. There is a nostalgia associated with their old-fashioned style and they aim to bring hometown, classic and family friendly ice creams to Oakland, which are available in traditional dairy versions or a vegan-made versions, prepared with cashew milk.

One of the hottest, award-winning ice cream shops in the Bay Area is Smitten, located in Rockridge. It is a hip, sweet spot where everyone is smitten with their ice cream. They use organic milk and cream, no extracts, stabilisers, emulsifiers or preservatives, and in their one-of-a-kind patented ice cream maker, they produce the freshest, purest and creamiest ice cream upon request. Other than their typical flavours of vanilla, chocolate and espresso, some unique flavours are available during each month such as sticky toffee pudding, strawberry white balsamic, sweet corn with berries and maple brown sugar squash.

Lush, is the exception among all of the countless ice cream shops in the Bay Area, many of whom do not make their own ice cream base. Lush does make its own base, adjusting the sugar content and ingredients and they offer plenty of exciting and sophisticated flavours, not to mention homemade waffle cones too!
