安南, The art of Vietnamese cuisine at the new An Nam in the YOHO mall

The new An Nam outlet in the YOHO MALL aims to take customers on a simpler and more relaxed everyday dining experience, which is very different from its mother branch in Lee Garden One, that runs as a fine dining Vietnamese restaurant. The setting is very welcoming, open and spacious, as it contains different elements of wood and decorative handmade rattan lamp shades. The menu mostly consists of small shareable dishes featuring flavours of Southern Vietnam, while still containing some European influence, with French ingredients and techniques.

The Viet-style shrimp toast is a delightful start to the meal. The bottom toast is crunchy and soft- centered with a plump and egg-washed shrimp paste for the topping.

The steamed rice flan is aesthetically pleasing with a few minimal toppings of spring onions, shrimp and croutons. A dash of fish sauce would be a welcomed addition to this insatiable dish. Watch out though because even though this dish looks small, it is quite filling!

Most of you will agree that Vietnamese meals should always include green mango salad. This version comes with grilled barbecued pork, julienned carrots, basil and peanuts for an added crunch. It is a formal refreshment, especially when dressed with their housemade vinaigrette.

We were so impressed with the beef short ribs too. The ribs are tender and succulent, the sauce is well-executed to offer the perfect sweet-tangy balance. Trust me, this amazing dish is a must order.

Moving on to an irresistible main, the two gigantic river prawns are braised to perfection. They are fresh, meaty, rich and are served in a piping hot clay pot with an abundance of prawn roes in it. Wow!

An Nam's menu also includes a comprehensive selection of cocktails, fresh fruit smoothies and signature Vietnamese-style drip coffees. It is also has a list of innovative desserts.

We gave the two scoops of homemade ice cream a shot for our dessert. The coconut ice cream is more palate-friendly with a familiar ice cream texture, whereas the yam flavour is more like an iced-mashed taro.

Made with a young coconut, the agar agar jelly is also a dessert to sample.

The food at An Nam is unbelievably good due to the dedication from their experienced head chef. The food is truly authentic and cooked like family-fare should be. An Nam is a must if you are at the YOHO Mall!
