Review: 208 Duecento Otto's Tartufo D'Alba Autumn Menu

A fine selection of dishes with a generous helping of white Alba truffle

'Tis the season for white Alba truffles to grace the menus of many restaurants around the city, much to the delight of chefs and foodies alike. One of our favourite restaurants offering a truffle menu this year is 208 Duecento Otto. Chef Mick Bolam has introduced five fantastic dishes that are served with three grams of white truffle (dessert is served with two grams). You can tell there was a lot of thought put into each dish; all the spices, cheeses and garnishes used complement the white truffle exceptionally well.

To Start

We began with the uovo tartufo con asparagi ($388) or, for those who aren't fluent in Italian, a soft organic egg with charred asparagus and white truffle. The surprisingly large, delicate egg sat atop a bed of slightly smoky asparagus, with a generous amount of shaved truffle on top. If you're all about that #yolkporn, this is definitely the dish to start with. Looking for a meatier option? 208 also offers carpaccio di manzo con tartufo bianco d'Alba ($428): beef carpaccio with pickled mushroom, radish, Marsala jelly and white Alba truffle.

In the Middle

As part of 208's truffle menu, they're serving a pizza and pasta dish, both of which completely blew us away. If you're looking for a good dose of incredibly cheesy, creamy and truffle-y pasta, order the tagliatelle con tartufo bianco d'Alba ($488). The al dente homemade tagliatelle was generously covered in a thick Parmesan fondue with a smoked scamorza cheese topping that really pulled the whole dish together. We also tried the pizza (have we told you we're obsessed with 208's pizza?) that had us wishing we didn't have to share it. The pizza bianco con tartufo bianco d'Alba ($488) was dressed with porcini mushrooms, buffalo mozzarella, thick shards of Parmesan and white Alba truffle. This pizza was worth every penny.

To Finish

If you haven't had enough truffles for one evening, 208 is also serving up a grappa zabaione e tartufo bianco d'Alba (HK$288): glazed fig, grappa zabaglione and (you guessed it) white Alba truffle.

The White Alba Truffle menu is available at 208 Duecento Otto from now until 1 December
Each savoury dish is served with three grams of white truffle, while dessert is served with two grams. Additional truffle is $108 per gram. You can add truffle to 208's à la carte dishes at $108 per gram, with a minimum of three grams.
