Exploring South Africa through its wines offers a journey into the country’s many cultural influences. Our rich winemaking history dates back to 1659 and includes Dutch, French, German and Italian influences. Our winemakers have plenty of tradition and experience to draw on, but our industry also embodies a spirit of exploration and discovery. South Africa is a vibrant and multicultural society, and the discourse between the different generations and cultures is giving rise to innovative and original wine styles. As UK wine writer and judge Tim Atkin MW remarked, 'South Africa – with its diverse terroirs, old vines and pure winemaking talent – is one of the most dynamic and exciting winemaking countries in the New World.'
