Replacing long-standing Indonesian Restaurant 1968, which closed this July after 58 years of operation, bright yellow hoarding has gone up on Central’s Cochrane Street announcing the imminent October arrival of MEGA MGC COFFEE from South Korea.
The popular Korean coffee chain is known for serving up mega-sized drinks at bargain prices, with a standard americano sizing up to 24 ounces at a price of about KRW2,000, or HKD12 – giving China’s wallet-friendly Luckin Coffee chain a run for its money.
Unique menu items include the Cube Latte, made with espresso ice cubes, and Pong Crush, a frappé blended and topped with Jolly Pong, South Korea’s iconic puffed-wheat cereal.
MEGA MGC boasts nearly 4,500 locations throughout South Korea. The new Hong Kong shop is the chain’s first overseas outpost following its expansion to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, in mid-2024.
