Foodie and r é n raised HKD441,200 in ticket sales, pledges, and purchases of auction items for r é n In the Kitchen Charity Night at The Mira Hong Kong hosted on Sep. 2.

Funds were raised to support the social enterprises employment schemes for Hong Kong’s disadvantaged and underprivileged youths joining top kitchens across the city. 

200 attendees began the night inside the glamorous Tsim Sha Tsui hotel with flutes of RSRV Champagne and Saicho sparkling tea, welcomed by hosts Charmane Hui and Jean-Charles Herbet, before savouring the treats from a rare 16-hands collaboration with a clan of top Hong Kong chefs.

Kicking off the affair, Rania Hahotum of R.H Fine Dining served the tarte by Rania Hatoum, kaviari ossetra caviar paired with ankimo pâté and yuzu sake pickled daikon, before Loïc Portalier of Louise previewed a caramelised onion tart made with comté cheese and back truffle.

Heavy Michelin-starred and -recommended hitters followed with starters designed by Mitsuru Konishi of Plaisance by Mauro Colagreco with a shellfish & squid ragout with green shiso foam, and Sebastian Lorenzi of Té Bo with his raviolo of Wagyu beef cheek topped with lemon gel. David Lai of Neighbourhood brought together fish, crab, and lobster head for a soothing bouillabaisse.

The second main, a M6 Wagyu beef tenderloin with root vegetables designed by Olivier Elzer of L’Envol, capped the savoury portion of the night. The eight-course menu finished with a ginseng tea ice-cream with yuzu curd and dacquoise served by Kyle Yang of ZS Hospitality and a single-origin paquibato 70% chocolate from Alexis Watrin  of The Mira Hong Kong.

An auction hosted by art expert Sara Mao hosted during the meal saw rare prizes such as the former TATE Dining Room Mignardises trolley, VEA 8-course tasting menu with cocktail pairing for two, and a set of Guangcai porcelain pieces auctioned off to support r é n in their charity initiatives. 

Like Foodie, r é n is championing the next generation of leaders joining Hong Kong’s kitchens to drive passion in food served and enjoyed to millions in our city.
