Fresh, innovative Thai food is what you will find at Koh Tomyums at Discovery Bay. This restaurant is always busy so making a booking is recommended. However when we visited last Sunday night , the staff happily accommodated the two of us with a seat outside without a booking.
Our first meal to arrive was the fried rice with pork, shallots and sour mango (picture below). The rice was hot and fluffy with a subtle chilli hint and plenty of finely diced shallots throughout. It came topped with an egg omelette and a side of marinated pork belly, chorizo and sour mango. The pork belly was tender and had been marinated in a sweet sauce, however the chorizo was too oily and I think it could have done without. The sour mango was the biggest surprise and the standout on the dish. I think it was pickled mango and it gave the dish the kick that it needed with its sour and sweet flavour.
We also ordered a chicken cashew dish (picture below) and a fried rice with vegetable stir fry. The chicken was tasty but not as good as the fried rice and vegetables. The veg were so fresh and you could taste the flavour of each individual veggie. It comes highly recommend as a side.
I think this is the best restaurant in Discovery Bay so next time you are there definitely make a booking and see for yourself.
