A worthy cause: We are always keen to support our local communities, and if that means filling our bellies with delicious samplings from some of the top restaurants in Hong Kong, then we are definitely on board. This May 12th marks the 24th anniversary of Heep Hong Society’s Great Chefs of Hong Kong fundraiser, a one night extravaganza that brings together 40 of Hong Kong’s top chefs at the Grand Hyatt. Ticket proceeds will go towards the education and rehabilitation programs Heep Hong provides to more than 10,000 families with special needs children. The organisation has worked with special needs children since 1963, and the 600-strong team currently support 40 service units as well as kindergartens, primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong.
Delicious offerings: During our press preview, we sampled eight signature dishes spanning the globe. Dishes that enticed our palate included juicy tiger prawn cocktail dressed in calypso sauce from The Beach House before moving onwards to pulled pork tacos from Coyote Bar and Grill. Chiu Chow steamed dumplings made with red fermented rice from the Harbour Grand Hotel jostled with tender Ching Mai ribs from Namo Avant Thai for space on our plates. The Porterhouse’s pork bun was given a Cantonese flourish with a dash of briny, XO sauce. Our favourite, however, goes to the juicy Hainanese chicken rice from the Grand Hyatt, which was irresistibly flavourful and succulent. The silky chicken juice infused each kernel of rice with incredible aroma. For dessert, we sampled the refreshing “1 metre citrus tart” from The Mira Hotel. The delicate dessert combined citrus flavours from all over the globe, from French yellow lemons, to Italian bergamot, to Japanese yuzu, and finally, to Malaysian kaffir lime. The Peninsula’s chocolatier, Marijn Coertjens, impressed with four intricately crafted chocolates based on animal themes. Our favourite was the “toucan” a meticulously painted chocolate filled with salted caramel and yuzu.

Other than the restaurants mentioned above, popular favourites such as Carbone, FINDS, Sushi Kuu, The Butchers Club and VEA will also be serving up delicious offerings.
Three varieties of tickets are available, with general tickets at $880, Great Chefs Plus tickets at $1,580 and Star Chef Plus Tickets at $1,980.
General tickets are valid from 6-9pm, and include signature dishes from 30 restaurants in the Grand Ballroom.
Great Chefs Plus tickets are also valid from 6-9pm, and includes dishes from 40 restaurants plus a seat in the Grand Rooms.
Star Chef Plus tickets are valid from 7-10pm and includes dishes from nearly 50 restaurants and a seat at the Tiffin Lounge.
