It was more than two years ago when we first heard about David Thompson’s restaurant at Tai Kwun. We were on a Mekong river cruise with the chef himself, and he let slip that he was planning something very special for the historic site in Hong Kong.

EDIT 27 Feb 2019: Check out the new Chef & new menu here!

Fast forward, and now, finally, Aaharn, Chef Thompson’s ode to the best of Thai cuisine, is opening at the revitalised Central Police Station site. The restaurant centres around a tasting-menu concept, although à-la-carte options are also available. This is the first tasting-menu restaurant for the chef, who received a Lifetime Achievement Award at Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants in 2016. Known for his dedication to researching the rich gastronomic culture and history of Thailand, Chef Thompson bases his dishes around ancient Thai recipes, some of which even come from Thai funeral books.

Aaharn occupies the top floor of the historic Armoury building, with a history dating back to 1924.

The restaurant officially opens its doors this Thursday, 18 October 2018.
