One of our fave kitchen shops has closed its doors forever (goodbye Pantry Magic, we will miss you!), so here are some other options for when you’re needing to pad out your cooking equipment.

1. Shanghai Street, Yau Ma Tei

A positive paradise for cooks and bakers – this is the number one place to shop for utensils! It’s made up of many different mini stores that sell literally everything you need, whether it’s knives, pots and pans, crockery, baking supplies, accessories and so much more.

2. I Love Cake

This is a popular shop that sells all kinds of bakingware and ingredients, ranging from cake-making tools to baking accessories and embellishments.

3. King Tak Hong Porcelain Co.

Situated in Wanchai, this is another ideal place to visit if you are looking for bargain-priced kitchenware. This shop sells mostly porcelain plates, glasses, and even storage boxes. It basically has everything you need for a table setting.

4. Twins Baking Co, Wanchai

We recently visited during the Covid baking frenzy in order attend to our baking deficiencies by buying the right stuff. It was not well stocked with flour (because they are not magic we suppose), but had everything else. We picked up a baguette baking tray, a sourdough lined proofing basket, a lame and one of those special spoon scales for very small amounts of salt and herbs and what not. Everything was very reasonably priced, and this may be one of our favourite spots.

It was very busy though, so we are not sharing any secrets here.

5. Big Department Stores

It’s a bit obvious but might be the right option for sheer volume of goods. Other than specialty stores, most big department stores also sells a selection of kitchenware at an affordable price such as IKEA, Sogo and Wing On, so here they are:

Whilst you probably won’t find many bargains here, it’s a gorgeous shop with some well known British and American brands such as Dualit toasters, Global knives and KitchenAid mixers.
