In the past few years, being vegetarian in Hong Kong has become increasingly easier when it comes to dining out. With many of our favourite spots developing vegan and vegetarian menus, as well as multiple vegetarian restaurants popping up, it’s no longer the feat it used to be.

Vegetarian options are not just limited to boring salads and side dishes anymore. Now vegetarians can eat out with their friends and still feel as though they’re getting value for money and a hearty meal. But what about free-flow brunches? While this Hong Kong tradition is often dominated by seafood and meat, we’ve found a few spots offering standout vegetarian options alongside free-flow bubbles!

Disclaimer: I am not a vegetarian, but I am an avid bruncher. I dedicate this list to my veggie friends who love brunch as much as I do.

Fang Fang

Fang Fang Hong Kong

Fang Fang is a modern and sophisticated Chinese restaurant offering a well-priced free-flow brunch menu. Here you can enjoy a brunch that is still protein heavy without any of the meat. This four-course menu is full of delicious vegetarian options such as edamame, truffle mushroom dumplings, miso eggplant, salt-and-pepper tofu and more. With a free-flow alcoholic bevvy package that includes Moët & Chandon, house wine, beer, sake AND margaritas, how could you possibly go wrong?

When: Saturdays, 12–3pm

Beef & Liberty

Beef & Liberty Hong Kong

Whoever would have thought that a place with “beef” in its name would become such a powerhouse in the plant-based movement? This popular burger joint by beloved chef Uwe Opocensky was one of the first to embrace the Impossible Burger, transforming the plant-based patty into some truly glorious burger creations. Any burger on the Beef & Liberty menu can now be ordered with the Impossible patty and vegan cheese too. The à-la-carte brunch also has non-burger vegetarian options such as avocado and ricotta toast ($99) and yoghurt and berries ($59). An assortment of free-flow drinks can be added too.

Chaiwala Hong Kong

Indian cuisine is full of diverse and flavourful vegetarian dishes. Chaiwala, from Pirata Group, has a brunch menu full of hearty and delicious Indian favourites. There’s even an entire buffet-style chaat station – a selection of bite-sized snacks such as pani puri (made with chickpeas and potato) and palak patta (spinach fritters, sweet potato crisps and spiced yoghurt). Once you’ve conquered the gorgeous chaat station, you’ll be served potato-filled dosas, a veggie tandoori platter and saag paneer with basmati rice and naan. If that’s not enough, a selection of Indian desserts is included (plus strawberry-flavoured candyfloss made before your very eyes). The non-alcoholic bevvy package includes free-flow lassis, while the alcoholic package features unlimited Prosecco and a G&T from the antique gin trolley!

Picada Hong Kong

Picada is a fun and lively option for a family-friendly Latin brunch and even offers a mesmerising magic show (the bunny alone is reason enough to go). Aside from the performance and delectable five-course brunch menu, Picada offers an extensive selection of vegan and vegetarian dishes. Each course has at least one veggie option, including a vegan Peruvian causa (a stack featuring shiitake mushroom, avocado and spicy yellow pepper purée) and vegan stuffed tostones (fried plantain cups filled with vegan Omnipork). The free-flow package includes margaritas and sangria as well as beer and wine.

Ah, pizza. How could you possibly go wrong when it comes to authentic Italian cuisine? Not only is JIA Group’s 208 a restaurant with a stunning interior and delicious pizza, it also offers a pretty fantastic weekend brunch full of veggie options. The buffet includes a selection of salads, antipasti and desserts. If you choose to add on a main course, you’ll love dishes like the eggplant Parmesan and margherita pizza. Vegan pizzas are available on request.

Pirata Group offers consistently good food and service and free-flow brunches at various restaurants that don’t break the bank. Our second Pirata restaurant on the list, TokyoLima is one of the few eateries in Hong Kong to offer Peruvian-Japanese (Nikkei) cuisine. Pescatarians will go nuts over the weekend brunch showcasing free-flow ceviche, while vegetarians can enjoy multiple options on the sharing-style menu and an impressive dessert buffet. An entirely vegetarian or vegan menu can also be arranged ahead of time. One of our all-time favourite vegan dishes can be found at Tokyolima: tacu tacu (Peruvian fried rice with snow beans, onion, red and yellow peppers and chimichurri). The free-flow package includes sake, Prosecco and more – proceed with caution!

Everyone’s favourite locksmith-cum-speakeasy serves up some seriously stylish Southeast Asian–inspired brunch dishes. At Mrs Pound you can start your weekend off right with an array of green à-la-carte options such as avocado smash ($128), lentil and chickpea masala congee ($78), pancake stacks ($95) and tropical granola ($78). Add on some free-flow Prosecco, house wine and beer, mimosas and Bellinis on top of your noms and enjoy the quirky vibes for which this spot is known.

Another addition to this list from JIA Group, Mak Mak is a Thai gem tucked away at LANDMARK. This brunch menu offers unlimited servings of all your Thai faves. That’s right – all the pad Thai and green curry you could ever dream of! Indulge in a wide range of vegetarian starters, curries, salads, noodles and more. Top it off with the free-flow alcoholic bevvy package and indulge in the ice-cream selection (we recommend the Thai iced tea flavour) and mango sticky rice for dessert for a real treat. Mak Mak also offers a separate vegetarian à-la-carte menu.
