In a shock announcement on Apr. 1 – definitely not an April Fools’ prank – the historic Lin Heung Lau (蓮香樓) teahouse swung open its doors following a two-year closure, ready to serve Hong Kongers its beloved tea and dim sum.

The new Lin Heung Lau features the same dim sum classics delivered by rushed staff. A new tea shop has opened on the ground floor of the venue, offering takeaway

After closing in 2019 owing to the expiration of the restaurant’s lease and then again in August 2022, due to the effects of the COVID pandemic, Lin Heung Lau has now returned after two years. The closure of the 100-year-old teahouse was symbolic of Hong Kong’s crippled F&B industry during the public health crisis.

A press release published on Mar. 31 stated that the former owners of the teahouse are not involved in the reopening of the historic Hong Kong dim sum restaurant.

Namely, staff working at the venue prior to the 2022 closure have joined with Lin Heung Food Trading Co, Limited to reopen the teahouse.
